Expert meeting "Amazing Novelties "

On 26 - 28 January 2026 was held the Research Seminar Amazing Novelties: Emergence and Creativity in Material, Biological, Sociocultural, and Artificial Layers of Complexity. The event is part of the Research Project De thesauro suo nova et vetera (Mt 13:52). A cross-disciplinary inquiry into human creativity.
The seminar focused on the emergence of novelty across different layers of complexity—material, biological, sociocultural, and artificial. While the core interest of the project remained human creativity, the seminar adopted a comparative approach, examining other forms of novelty emergence in animal, artificial, and even non-living physical systems. This wide-ranging perspective aimed to shed light on both the distinctive features of human creativity and the underlying (pre-)conditions that made creativity possible. Bringing together scholars from diverse fields—including natural sciences, philosophy, social sciences, and artificial intelligence studies—the seminar underscored the strongly interdisciplinary character of the research project and of the hosting institution.
The event was open to researchers, faculty members, and students interested in creativity, emergence, and innovation, and offered a forum for interdisciplinary dialogue on some of the most pressing questions in contemporary research.
